Europe wants a decision in 2010 to extend the life of the International Space Station (ISS).
Currently no program to use is not set up any funding to support the platform after 2015 and beyond.
However, the European Space Agency (ESA) Director General, Mr. Jean-Jacques Dordain, told the BBC that the uncertainty that has undermined the best use of the ISS.
He said he was convinced of its value, and expressed the hope at the station at least until 2020
Only by ensuring a long service life will be more scientists have applied for experiments in orbit around the advocacy workshop.
I am convinced that the continuation of the station in 2015 a mistake, because we won the best scientists to say that today, You are welcome to the space station, but hurry, it’s better than in 2015 near of the store, he said.
The gravity at the station allows scientists, systems and procedures do not take into account the bias of gravity. Even now offers a new understanding of infectious and degenerative diseases, and is expected to return in new knowledge in various sectors, again, as the science of materials.
But scientists need time to run their experiments, said Dordain.
The ISS project is a collaboration of five – the U.S., Russia, Europe, Japan and Canada.
One of the biggest problems in the line of extending the season of life is to be appointed to review manned space flight by the U.S. president, Barack Obama.
The Americans are developing a new vision for space exploration, and the rockets and spacecraft, necessary for its implementation. The future of U.S. participation on the ISS is directly related to the outcome of the review.
Dordain said no one partner in the ISS project unilaterally ended the platform. The meeting will be held in Japan later this year, where it is expected that others could go a little light to be transmitted.
The decision must be made in sufficient time to present the budget for the construction of the necessary material and decide on transport policy should be used between 2015 and 2020. There are many issues to be discussed if decisions are not made at the end of this year – early next year – will be increasingly difficult to address under which it will use the space station.
